I don’t know about you, but the NFL is my favorite seasonal sport to watch. Lazy Sundays spent on the couch, cheering for your favorite team with some wings and a cold soda, might just be the best thing on Earth. The cold weather and fantasy football absolutely enhance the season tenfold. I’ve always loved watching the NFL—whether it’s with my Dad or friends, football brings people together, and cheering for your team ignites a unique passion. As a lifelong Ravens fan, every year feels like “our year.” Now that we’re heading into the NFL season, let’s recap what’s about to unfold.
We had an eventful offseason, with seemingly something new to discuss every day. Significant trades, major signings, and numerous extensions made the news. Many teams have made considerable improvements, while others have remained unchanged. Let’s kick things off with the major headlines.

If you’ve been paying attention to sports news recently, you’ve seen arguably the best defensive player of all time come out of retirement to join his old team, the Los Angeles Rams, alongside reigning defensive player of the year Myles Garrett to build an absolute powerhouse defensive line. Not only that, but the signing of ex-Chief Trent McDuffie at cornerback strengthens their case for winning the Super Bowl this season. That is, if Rams star wide receiver Puka Nacua can maintain his composure after dealing with various issues this offseason. Regardless, I still have my money on this super team lifting the Lombardi Trophy this year.
The AFC
Other teams have made significant offseason upgrades that give them a solid chance as well. The Baltimore Ravens brought in new coaches, most notably head coach Jesse Minter, and signed pass rusher Trey Hendrickson to enhance their already formidable defense. Additionally, the Ravens made impressive draft picks to support Lamar Jackson, particularly wide receiver Ja’Kobi Lane from USC, who has gained a lot of attention throughout the offseason. A recurring concern for many teams, however, remains their ability to stay healthy. The Ravens, in particular, have faced these challenges for some time. Likewise, division rivals like the Cincinnati Bengals have struggled with injuries; Joe Burrow, for instance, went down early last season, missing a significant portion of the games and contributing to the team’s playoff absence. With a healthy Burrow and a revamped defense, can they start hot and make a playoff run?

In that division, reigning AFC champs the New England Patriots have added star wide receiver AJ Brown to the roster, giving MVP runner-up Drake Maye a true target. We are also seeing the return of Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes after dealing with an ACL tear last season. The AFC looks really strong, whether it’s the Texans’ five-star defense or the wide receiver room with Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins; who knows who’s gonna come out on top of the AFC.
The NFC
Speaking of the wide receiver room, the Dallas Cowboys have found a way to retain George Pickens for another year, pairing him with CeeDee Lamb, which makes them one of the biggest receiving threats in the NFL and potentially boosts the Cowboys’ chances of a playoff appearance. While it would be surprising, I can confidently envision them winning the NFC East. This division is shaping up to be quite entertaining, especially with the New York Giants hiring former Ravens head coach John Harbaugh and acquiring several ex-Ravens players like Isaiah Likely, Charlie Kolar, and Patrick Ricard. Additionally, the Giants made headlines by signing retired wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. to see how he can contribute alongside Malik Nabers, who is recovering from an ACL injury.
Remaining in the NFC, the Vikings have acquired former Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray to support his teammate Justin Jefferson after a challenging season with JJ McCarthy at the helm. Jahmyr Gibbs, having lost his partner David Montgomery, now steps up to carry the workload for the Lions, especially with the recent injury to former Chief Isiah Pacheco. Meanwhile, Caleb Williams aims to secure back-to-back division titles, while the Packers will be without wide receiver Romeo Doubs after trading him to the New England Patriots, and star pass rusher Micah Parsons has been ruled out for the first four weeks of the season.

Reigning champions, the Seattle Seahawks, will kick off the season on Wednesday against the New England Patriots, setting the stage for an exhilarating Super Bowl rematch. The Seahawks’ defense was among the best last year and continues to impress, while the Patriots have re-signed cornerback Christian Gonzalez, who had a phenomenal season. Seattle finished atop the NFC West last year, but who knows with the Los Angeles Rams looking tougher than ever, who knows who’s gonna finish on top in that division. The San Francisco 49ers haven’t made substantial changes this year, aside from adding veteran receiver Mike Evans, who gives Brock Purdy another reliable target.
A New Season Awaits!
I’m uncertain about what to expect from this NFL season, but I believe it will be one of the most thrilling seasons we’ve witnessed. With numerous changes reshaping the league, this could very well be one of the greatest NFL seasons in history. The season kicks off on Wednesday night at 8:20, featuring the New England Patriots visiting the Seattle Seahawks. So, don your jerseys, check your fantasy teams, and get ready— the moment we’ve all been waiting for is finally here!
