Mo Gaba was an inspiring figure both globally and in Baltimore. Despite battling four types of cancer that ultimately left him blind, he fought bravely for 14 years before he passed away on July 28, 2020.

Mo loved all of the Baltimore teams and even got to spend some time with them before he passed. He was raised in Glen Burnie and loved to go to school. All the kids at school loved him, too. He was very blessed at a young age. In 2019, he was the first person ever to announce an NFL draft pick in Braille. After that, the Orioles came into the picture and did amazing things for Mo while he was still here.
Mo’s mom was shocked when everything happened to him because, at the time, she was struggling with work and taking care of him and hospital trips every other day. While his mom was at work, he called radio stations asking for things, and his mom didn’t find out until the radio station sent her an invite one day. This gained Mo more confidence to do things out of his comfort zone. He also became stronger and happier after all of this.
After Mo passed away, he had more tributes than you could even count on one hand. The Baltimore Ravens decided to highlight Mo from Baltimore in their endzone, which got translated into Madden 23 and is still happening in the new Maddens. Also, the Baltimore Orioles decided to make two bobbleheads of Mo and make two days that were free giveaways of his bobblehead. Last, Baltimore decided to make a day called “Mo Gaba Day,” which a lot of people celebrate, and a day that they actually give out his bobbleheads to people and free shirts.

At the end of the day, we should realize that Mo had made a big change in Baltimore and its culture. We should also realize in the world that anybody can do what they put their mind to in a short amount of time even with disabilities and cancer.
